Born in Restigouche County on the Bay des Chaleurs, Rachel has a variety of interests in all the arts. Since university where she followed fine art classes, she continued to explore painting, sketching, but her interest in the non-figurative form has always been predominent. In 2007, an opportunity arose to participate in a workshop given by artist Jacques Desgagnés. This opened her to the world of abstract as a means of expression.
Through her work in education and particularly as an art teacher, she discovered the children's spontaneity and their wonderful and unique talents. Their naïveté allows them to create freely without judging themselves. This is a quality Rachel tries to bring across in her art. Her inspiration comes from the maturation of all her life exeriences, especially through nature, music and human relations.
Without a particular intention, she works intuitively, spreading layers of paint that reveal interesting and unexpected textures and colors, then engraves into the layers with the spatula to add shapes and more texture. With a preference for oils, she adventures also into acrylics to explore a variety of techniques and vibrant colors. Whatever the medium, for the artist, abtract painting is like entering into a mysterious and infinite world. This gives her the freedom to improvise and experiment with movement, colors and shapes, permitting the observers to interpret depending on their mood or taste.
