Originally from Ontario Cynthia graduated with honors from the Visual Arts program at the University of Western Ontario. After graduating she began her teaching career by day and artistic career as a portrait artist by night. Cynthia soon found the demands for drawings overwhelming, the whole process became too restrictive and boring – she found her imagination was wasting away. It was about this time that she met her then husband and together they moved from the Toronto area to Bathurst, New Brunswick where she now lives with her two children.

New Brunswick was an immediate source of inspiration for Cynthia, the province’s textures and diversity are whimsically captivated through her use of vivid colour and playful horizon lines. The ocean, shores and towns of Atlantic Canada are captivated almost comically, in a way that stirs the imagination, everyday scenes that are routine to most, Cynthia sees as magical. By eliminating unnecessary detail and looking at the main idea of a landscape Cynthia has created paintings that reflect the hospitality and energy of the Maritime culture.

“How lucky we are to live in New Brunswick. We have the Atlantic Ocean in front of us, and the forest behind us. The landscape is unspoiled by industry, it is rugged yet beautiful. The coastline is dotted with beaches, family farms and fishing towns; in the woods small logging villages appear along the highway. New Brunswick truly is an artist’s dream Province.”
