Charline Lanteigne

A native of Dalhousie, NB, Charline Lanteigne has loved integrating art in her life since childhood. She was attracted by the beautiful colours which brightened her day. The colours in all their hues were captivating and moving. Over time, Charline learned to use art as a way to express her world. She took many classes ranging from embroidery, pottery, and batik to drawing and painting in oils, watercolour, acrylics, and pastel, studying with interesting and stimulating teachers.

Recently and increasingly, her artistic flights involve creating multicoloured abstracts, allowing the sense of the moment to reach out through her fingertips and materialize in the choice of the first colour to be laid on the canvas. This first colour is followed by the other shades as they dance to the rhythm of her knives.

For Charline, nothing is more moving than when another person, in looking at her paintings, experiences the same thoughts and feelings as she did while painting the canvas. That someone can express in words the imaginary world she created, is fascinating and stimulating to create more.

During a stay in Aix-en-Provence, France at age twenty, it was a view into the world of master painters, especially the impressionists, that led her to purchase her first paint brushes. Prior to that, she had taken drawing lessons and liked working with charcoal, followed by some years of immersion in the gentleness of watercolour. Pastels brought back memories of childhood and learning to colour, then through working in oils she discovered the beauty and stability of oil paintings.

Currently, Charline explores the world of abstracts and continues to make watercolours. The abstracts express her emotions, feelings, the beauty of the world and the treasures of her secret garden. Her colour harmonies become forms, impressions of characters. She lives in the moment and brings everything of herself into her paintings. She likes using palette knives for the texture, movement, and life they give to the oil paintings.

Also a composer of songs, Charline sometimes uses them in her artworks, such as 'Courir apres le temps' and 'La vie en rose'.

Without colours and music, the artist would seek to invent flavours.

Charline's paintings are available for purchase at the Restigouche Gallery in Campbellton.
