Melindria Tavoularis

profile
Melindria was born and raised in New York City. Her journey as an artist began at the age of three, with her first watercolor set. Pastel, charcoal, graphite, colored pencil and ink were added as she explored other mediums throughout her childhood.

Melindria draws her inspiration from her surroundings. Her artistic expression is a reflection of the urban and rural environments which have touched her life. The techniques she employs to voice her creative intent range from the abstract to realism.

Melindria left NYC after thirty-seven years, to settle in 'quieter' environments in the US northeast. In 2003, she and her husband arrived at New Brunswick's North Shore in search of a summer camp. Impressed by the beauty and spirit of the area, they purchased a cottage on the Restigouche River. Melindria was granted a permit to work as a self-employed artist by the CIC in 2006, and seven years later, she and her husband officially entered Canada as Permanent Residents. Melindria has a B.A. degree in Art History from the University of Wisconsin. Her formal fine art training has been through college courses, and private classes in NYC. She has been exhibiting since 1978. The artist's work has been accepted into juried shows in NYC, the US northeast, and Canada. Her most recent solo exhibits have been in New Brunswick and Maine. Melindria has been teaching abstract art workshops since 2007.
