Monick Desjardins

profile
After twenty-five years in rhythmic gymnastics as a choreographer, I decided to change vocation, and became a painter.

I started out by photographing flowers but soon transferred that passion to painting them on canvas. I try to capture light and shadow and movement in the petals. Painting is something that progresses along with the individual's personal development.

Continuously seeking to evolve through my art, I believe I'll be an eternal student. I am first and foremost a floral painter, that is what I specialize in. However I do enjoy trying other subjects. One can master technique but this has no relation to creativity or the ability to conceptualize. I would love to have time to try everything. I feel as though I have so much to express onto my canvases

Artist's statement

I began by taking drawing lessons at 'l'ecole Dali'. Then to improve technique I took classes with well-known painters who specialize in florals such as master floral painter Anne Drouin. She meets with Ljubomir Ivnakovic twice a year for studies in technique and the grand masters.
